The streets of Stafford were filled with the feet of runners on Sunday as over 2,000 athletes of all abilities set off from the start line of the 2025 Stafford half-marathon. With two fabulous fund-raisers in the field, the CCPA Cheer Team of families, staff and volunteers roared on their every step along the 13.1 mile route around the county town.
Duncan Sandy of the Soup Kitchen eatery in Stafford and Amelia Hodgetts both bravely accepted the physical and mental challenge to complete the course and crossed the finish line to claim their well-earned medals.
And the pounds piled up with every pace as Duncan’s JustGiving page raised over £800 and Amelia brought in over £300 for CCPA despite the fact that she only agreed to the event just five days before!
As the start time of 10am approached, a light rain offered the runners ideal conditions to complete their challenge and the Mayor of Stafford, Cllr Frank James, duly got proceedings underway with the assistance of Stu Haycock from Stafford’s Vibe1 radio station.
Duncan had his sights set firmly on a new personal best time and he certainly delivered, crossing the line in a very impressive 1hr39m11s. Amelia had never even run this distance before and was adamant that she ‘just wanted to finish’ so she amazed us all with a run of 2hr24m47s
Between them, these two CCPA Stars did the hard yards and delivered over £1,000 pounds through their efforts. CCPA CEO Rachael Olley was simply thrilled: “They did it!! We’re so proud of Duncan and Amelia! Duncan ran a brilliant PB and Amelia literally agreed to run for us this week so has had no time to train!!
